A Happy Unbirthday!

random act of sweetness

They say that children don’t lie, and I hope this still holds true today. Anyway, the randomness and the manner with which this child’s note was made gave it that authentic feel. It was sent exclusively to me and not posted in a website where there is a tendency to be more generous with words that cater more to conceived possible readers other than the recipient himself/ herself. It was sent on a random day and was not dictated by etiquette of occasions and designated special days. It was sent by someone who does not need extra points in her grades, and who, incidentally, belongs to one of the more challenging classes I’ve had, where you sometimes drag yourself just to get to the classroom and become an actress worthy of a Golden Globe.

I do appreciate the other messages of appreciation from my students past and present, given in whatever form and occasion. I just think that this is one of those that are extra special, non-mushy but realistic enough with a pleasant punch, you know. This is one of those things that make all the aches, the eyebags, the cramming, the deadlines, the loads of papers to check and everything that is not perfect in the world of teachers seem inconsequential. This is one of those times that definitely affirms; one that tells me that it has all been worth it.

This is one of the best unbirthday (Lewis Carroll) presents I’ve received, like, ever. I’m so not joking.      =P

* note to reader: I don’t usually give out my YM id to students. This girl is one of the class’ leaders during the Fil Week with whom I had to coordinate so that I can comment on the poems they’ve written for their contest on a weekend, due to time constraints.  =D
