I’ve just received a meme from Reyna Elena, “Ang Reyna Emperadora ng OFW” from Philadelphia. I had to ask my sister what a meme is, and what I’m supposed to do with it, ehhehe. So, here are my answers, kamahalan:
Are Filipino guys more traditional? If so, does that mean their values are more intact than that of foreigners?
It depends. I have some Filipino guy friends who are traditional, and some who are not. There are also foreigners who say that they prefer being traditional in some ways, and some who use their nationality as an instant explanation for behaving otherwise.
When it comes to getting attention, Filipinos are more traditional, yes. Paramdam at palipad-hangin are still in, but these are not necessarily values-related, ha. I’ve tried saying “hi” to a foreigner through the internet, trip-trip lang, in the name of (eto na naman po) research, and then I got an invitation to a lunch/dinner already. Hambiles, di ba.
Is the stereotype true that Westerners have less of a sense of spirituality?
I don’t think so. I’ll expound on this when I’ve gathered enough evidences.
What about a foreigner’s view of commitment in a relationship?
I think commitment is more dependent on emotional/financial/spiritual maturity levels, values, goals and aspirations in life rather than the nationality. A friend said that “A man is a man, regardless of nationality. You just have to find the right one for you. And that’s the challenge”. Yeah, damn tough challenge.
How are they as mates- are they jealous, possessive?
Some seem to be, some do not. Again, I associate it with maturity level, plus the level of trust that you have for each other. A little jealousy is okay, I guess, just as long as it’s one that listens to reason.
Is it true that normally a stronger woman is better off with a foreigner?
Again, regardless of nationality, some seem to be looking for a weak woman, who will surely not emasculate them or create too much conflict in their married lives, I guess. And there are some who look for a real partner in life, an equal. I guess in the end, everyone either gets the person they deserve (could be a blessing/ good karma, or a bad karma) or does not get the person they don’t deserve (same principles apply, hehe).
For this meme, I am tagging people who have been “exposed” to Filipinos and foreigners alike, and who may even be willing to share personal experiences we could learn from:
1. From UK: Danz – but I can’t find her blog now… did you abandon it, sistah?
2. From Indonesia: Dian
3. From Bahrain: Ann
4. From Florida: Cecile
5. From Hawaii: Meiko
And yes, I’m curious about what guys think about this, so here are some of them:
6. From New Zealand (?): Gilbert
7. From California: Jopes
8. From New York: Nazar
Friends, if you don’t blog but would like to reply, you are free to post comments on my blog page. Thanks, and God bless!
